The bigger picture

Why do young people need support?

Growing up today is harder than ever, with mental health problems on the rise. It is currently thought that 1 in 6 young people have a diagnosable mental health condition. But why is this?

There are rising pressures from Social media and perfectionism. Our young people are increasingly disconnected from their friendships and socially isolated, due to conducting much of their lives online. Many young people are suffering from parental absence and lack of emotional availability from their parents. There is a cost of living and poverty crisis so parents are more often out at work or striving to earn money to support their family.

School and exam pressures are on the rise, with schools asking a lot of their students.

There is a feeling of a lack of opportunities and hope for the future within the psyche of young people. With more and more young people needing support, there is a lack of mental health support and lack of positive role models. Youngers are suffering from low self esteem and confidence and are lacking resilience, often not feeling good enough. Anxiety is common among young people, with fears for the future common. Friendships are often fragile and unstable which compounds anxious thoughts. Gender and identity struggles are widespread, with many questioning their roles within their peer groups.

Who am I

Youth practitioner / coach and mentor / family coach

I’m Kate, and I am thrilled to embark on a new venture that addresses a crucial need in our society: the emotional health and wellbeing of our young people.

Over the years, I've listened to countless stories of young people grappling with various struggles. This inspired me to create something unique, directly addressing their concerns and desires. As an independent youth wellbeing mentor and wellness coach, I bring over twenty years of experience working with children and young people in roles such as teacher, tutor, coach, mentor, key worker, and parent coach.

My mission is to help young people embrace their true selves, fostering a sense of self-worth and happiness. I have a proven track record in delivering psychosocial interventions that alleviate anxiety and low mood while boosting self-esteem and confidence.

Having worked with several local authorities and charities, I am now eager to reach even more young people by operating independently. My extensive experience, including three years at a youth drop-in center, has given me deep insights into the hopes and fears of young people. I am dedicated to transforming their lives through personalized, effective mentoring and coaching.
